Soup Therapy: Detoxify, Lose Weight, and Boost Immunity

Posted in Food News on January 24th, 2010 by MyClassPro – 4 Comments

By Dr. Maoshing Ni

soupThe healing power of soup: something that both scientists and grandmothers can agree on. From helping you lose weight to warming you up from the inside out to boosting your immunity, soup is a winter staple that you shouldn’t be without. Maybe that is one reason that it is celebrated this month with its very own National Soup Month. Here’s a closer look at what you can do to benefit from soup’s amazing healing powers.

The healing power of soup
An ancient Chinese proverb states that a good doctor uses food first, then resorts to medicine. A healing soup can be your first step in maintaining your health and preventing illness. The therapeutic value of soup comes from the ease with which your body can assimilate the nutrients from the ingredients, which have been broken down by simmering.

Here are some healing soup tips that will preserve your wellness and longevity:

1. Lose weight with soup
Obesity is on the rise throughout the industrialized world, resulting in a startling increase in the rates of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. You can count yourself out of the statistics if you eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush excess wastes from your body. It has been found that people who eat one serving of soup per day lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories, but don’t eat soup. Homemade soup is your best bet, because canned soups tend to be loaded with salt and chemicals. My advice is to use organic vegetables whenever possible. The herbicides and pesticides that can be present in conventional produce can assault the immune system and overload it with toxins.

Creating An Exclusive Class

Posted in MCP How To... on January 18th, 2010 by MyClassPro – Comments Off

lockYou now have the ability to create special class listings that only certain, pre-defined members can view.  We call these Exclusive Classes.

If you want to offer a class only for those clients that have been with you the longest, but don’t want to make any other client feel ‘left out’, this feature is just what you need!

Simply go to your Classes > Create area and create the class as usual.  At the bottom of the page, you’ll notice a new area that will enable you to make the class visible only for those clients you specify.  Once you’ve created and enabled this class, the listing will be visible only to the specified clients once they’ve logged in.

Comparing Class Signup Lists

Posted in MCP How To... on January 18th, 2010 by MyClassPro – Comments Off

Client tracking can be challenging.  With MyClassPro, you already have various reports to help you determine instances such as which clients haven’t signed up for classes, who hasn’t paid their attendance fee, the latest activity performed by your clients, and individual client performance (to name a few).

We’ve just added a comparison tool to allow you to compare the signup lists between two classes.  This tool enables you to quickly see which clients attended last month’s class and compare that to this month’s class, for example.

In the sub-menu bar of your Classes > View All page, you’ll see a new compare link.  When you click the link, you’ll be able to choose two of your class listings from the drop-down boxes.

The result will look something like this…ClassCompare

Heart-Healthy Eating

Posted in Food News on January 15th, 2010 by MyClassPro – Comments Off

If you are overweight, one major key to reducing heart disease is losing weight. A study of men found that when they lost an average of 18 pounds over 9 months, their risk of heart disease fell by 40%. Researchers found that this benefit did not automatically follow from simply changing the composition of the diet. It was necessary to lose weight by eating less, changing to fat-free and low-fat foods and/or exercising.

What exactly is a “heart-healthy” diet?
A heart-healthy diet is low in saturated fat but high in soluble fiber – the kind found in oat bran and also barley, prunes, beans and other legumes, which helps to lower LDL cholesterol but raise HDL cholesterol. Other sources of dietary fiber include beets, citrus fruits and grains.

Eating more fish is also recommended. Two to three servings of fish per week – such as bluefish, mackerel, tuna and salmon – can reduce heart disease risk by about 40%. Fish contains omega-3 fatty acids, which not only lowers LDL and raises HDL, but may also reduce blood clotting and inflammation in the arterial walls.

You probably know that the less salt (or sodium) you eat, the lower your blood pressure is likely to be. And the lower your blood pressure, the smaller your risk of heart disease.

Potassium has just the opposite effect of sodium – more means reduced blood pressure. Increase your intake of potassium-rich foods, such as bananas, oranges, dates, Lima beans and potatoes. You should be aware that there’s no evidence to suggest that blood pressure can be lowered by taking potassium supplements.

The following video contains advice from Heidi Kaufman, a licensed dietitian and nutritionist. Heidi is a certified diabetes educator for Partners in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition in Wilmington, North Carolina and has her master’s degree in public health nutrition as well as a certificate in gerontology.

Extra weight at your waist increases risk of heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes – but recent studies have found that extra weight centered on the hips and thighs may not.

To check out your “body shape risk’, measure your waist at it’s narrowest point, and your hips (over your buttocks) at their widest point. Divide the inches measured at your waist by those measured at your hips. An increase in health risks are related to a ratio that’s greater than 1.0 for men, and 0.8 for women.

Updated Subscription Options

Posted in MCP How To... on January 14th, 2010 by MyClassPro – 1 Comment

We’ve just finished updating the Subscription Options you can set when offering recurring billing to your clients.

The two new options are on the Trial Period and include “end of current month” and “dated”.

Option:  “end of current month”
This enables you to set the Trial Period to end at the end of the same month a client signs up for the Subscription.  By setting a free Trial up in this manner you can state in your subscription offer’s description that billing occurs at the beginning of each month.   If you charge a “membership fee”, you may choose to set the Trial Period’s amount for that cost.

Option:  “dated”
A “Dated”  Trial Period means a client will not be charged until after a specified date.
For example: You are starting a special new class/camp on July 1st and would like clients to pay only through a Subscription.   However you’d like to make the offer before the class/camp starts to ensure a full roster.  You can set the Trial Period at a zero amount and have it end on July 1st.  This allows your clients to sign up as soon as you make this offer, but they won’t be charged until classes begin.
NOTE: This option will cause the subscription to automatically hide itself on the day the Trial ends.

If you have questions or would like assistance with setting up Subscription offers for your clients, feel free to contact us!

We’re happy to help!  :)
